τέχνη / technē is a term in Greek philosophy vaguely defined as art, craft, or skill. The interpretations and implications of τέχνη, observed by philosophers across millennia, are vast.

What resonates with me about both Plato and Heidegger’s particular interpretations of τέχνη is in understanding it as the blend of knowledge (often separately categorized as epistēmē) and its practical application. Understanding, expertise, technique, craft, production… all of these are integral to winemaking. To painting. To art.

This mural, represented by the conceptual of musical Apollo and the actual/action of warrior Athena, illustrates the confluence of the abstract and concrete that comprise art in its myriad forms.

“Cristi’s art has graced our (real and digital) walls for years. The chance to bring it into a space we’ll share with the public and our customers? We had her working on it before the wall was even finished!”

– Kelby Russell, Apollo’s Praise Co-founder

“We’re so intentional about how we present ourselves and our little winery, we knew Cristi would only elevate that. We have people asking for merchandise featuring the mural and we haven’t even opened yet!”

– Julia Hoyle, Apollo’s Praise Co-founder
