Queer Contours 〰️
I am the founder and host of Queer Contours, a weekly, donation-based figure drawing series at Queer Expression St. Pete. Queer Expression St. Pete is a completely grassroots volunteer collective that provides multigenerational community spaces for Queer and Trans folks.
Queer Contours centers the often marginalized bodies that make up our beautifully diverse community. Drawing has the potential to be an act of love and veneration towards the depicted subject. A figure drawing session presents an incredible opportunity to highlight all bodies in a respectful, non-exploitative light.
The opportunity to come together and meditate on the human form is precious. Mindful time spent observing a single body reminds us how radically unique every being is when provided a nurturing space to be witnessed. Yet, somehow, in the act of recognizing that specialness, a sense of unity emerges. The act of seeing someone as they are, interpreting their form, and distilling that process into a drawing.. it’s magic. Sacred. One person experiencing themselves in all their splendor has the power to lift the energy of anyone around them whose heart is open to being affected.
